- IDF 1 Scheme
- IDF1 details:
- The Intermediate Distribution Facility 1 (IDF1)
must service 24 rooms requiring connection from Building A West and must
also assure the backbone link with the MDF from Building A East
- The type of cable used to connect
these 24 rooms is CAT 5 UTP - this is the Horizontal Cross Connect (HCC)
cable
- The type of cable used to
connect IDF 1 to MDF is Fiber Optic Multimode Cable - Backbone connection
- Vertical Cross Connect (VCC) cable
- IDF 1 equipment used:
- for the 24+24 connections we will
use the following equipment:

two 48-port Switches - only 24 ports on each switch will be used (also one
48-port switch would be enough but future expansion would need more ports
available so using two 48-port switches would be very useful)
- two 48-port Patch Panels for curriculum network (VLAN3-VLAN48)
- one 24-port Patch Panel for teachers computers network (VLAN2)
- VLAN 3 - VLAN48 patch panels will be named HCC 2 & HCC 3
- VLAN 2 patch panel will be named HCC6
- IDF Room details:

The interior walls are
painted with fire retardant paint and has 3/4" plywood which is raised 1
1/4" from the walls where equipment is mounted
- 15 feet of wall space is provided for the
POP terminations.
- Drop ceiling should have fixed ceilings installed to
prevent unauthorized access.
- 12" ladder rack and 4" conduits installed
for horizontal and vertical cabling.
- Water and steam pipes should not run through or
above the wiring closets and the humidity should be maintained between 30%
and 50%.
- HVAC should maintain the room temperature
at 70 degrees F.
- Incandescent lights have been installed
